Customisation

I’ve always had a thing for customising my outfits. Be it simply sticking a badge or a bow on a bag, and using ribbon instead of laces in my Converse I’ve usually kept it pretty low key. However I haven’t really done much customising-wise since aforementioned ribbon over laces in the Converse a few years ago. Not until last night anyway. Upon buying a top/waistcoat combo from New Look this week I promptly separated the two (it would’ve happened of the top’s own accord anyway, the waistcoat was attached with a bit of flimsy elastic) and whilst the top was fine the waistcoat, I noted, lacked definition when worn. It kind of just hung there. Fair enough but if you like a bit more of a close fit with jackets and waistcoats, like I do, this posed a problem.

Which is where customisation comes in. Thanks to my grandma I’ve had several beautiful and unique brooches in my possession for the past year or so. One of them in particular is probably not what you’d see adorning most people’s jackets, bags or wherever they so choose to stick a brooch. This brooch is a metal lizard, complete with little red eyes, as if it’s climbing. So after a bit of experimentation with some of the other brooches I struck upon this one and positioned it so it draws the waistcoat in and managed to get it to look as if the lizard is climbing up the waistcoat. Cleverly cute?

Secret homecoming

Yay! I love surprises, particularly if I'm planning them. So I'm going home for just over a week on Wednesday. A huge gap in my timetable meant I might as well cure homesickness and be warm doing so...by going home. Simples. Excitement! :)

Bad times is stomach cramps :( I should really be doing something productive, like my critical evaluation for introduction to news, sports and magazine journalism. But I can't be bothered right now. I fancy a chat with my grandparents but they're not in/answering the phone so I'll have to try again later.

Eeeee can't wait to see people's faces in Church next Sunday, they'll think I've dropped out or something x)

Boredom busted

...with beauty products!I figured I'd make good use out of all the various facial cleansing/toning/ex foliating/moisturising products I got and so along came half an hour of face packs, cleansing milk, facial toners, exfoiliators and moisturisers. Boredom passed and my skin is now ULTRA smooth thanks to about eight product's worth of work.

Bored!

I'm running out of things to do. I've tidied my uni room, stuck up all my birthday cards, done the washing up, blogged my Christmas/January purchases, painted my nails (gold and shiny = lovely) and organised my DVDs and books. I don't wanna start my critical evaluation until tomorrow, I'm not in a DVD mood and I don't particularly want to read.

Fail :(

Winter Warmer

Part of my birthday present from Katie was this pretty scarf. It's from Accessorize and it has sparkles. Good enough for me, I'm like a human magpie!

Beauty buys

This is the culmination of my tidying efforts last night (no idea why but I decided that half 11 at night was a good time to tidy my uni room) and all the beauty stuff I got bought over Christmas. There's a combination of Soap and Glory, Gok Wan and Dead Sea Spa body kits in there (Dead Sea Spa stuff was my birthday present from Piers.Love!) Plus a couple of Body Shop body butters and my random face mask complete the biggest Tupperware filling of beauty stuff. Btw ignore the washing up brush and corner of washing up liquid you can see x)

Bags of fun

(Apologies for the bad pun in the title) Since my vintage bag I bought at the beginning of uni has decayed a bit (the material has come away from the clasp a little bit) and was actually a bit too big for a uni bag I invested in a new uni bag and found this beauty in Accessorize. Bonus was, it was half price in their sale. I love January! The text (in case you can't read it properly) says "Love Bird" and I think the pattern on the bag is quite cute. Plus the bag is big enough to fit all my uni junk in without being half my size, which is always good!

"If I have to have a contacts book I'd like a pretty one"

My dad listened to my request (why have boring stationary when you can have pretty stationary?!) and my contacts book (essential) fulfilled my pretty stationary whim when it was presented to me for Christmas. It also came with an equally pretty matching pen. Add in my little 2010 day view diary with silver flowers on the front and I can be organised with my pretty stationary. Yay :)

Wardrobe additions: dresses

I am, as Piers noted the other day upon seeing me paint my nails, "becoming more girly". Admittedly I have become less of a tomboy over the past few years but anyway. His evidence for this was "lots of new dresses and a higher care about your appearance such as painting nails". Alright then...anyway he was right about the new dresses and here are two of them. The pink lace top dress is from New Look and also available in black and white...I much prefer this rose pink one. The turquoise printed one is from Peacocks and was in their Christmas sale. Both are lovely. I team the turquoise one with jeans and a cardigan to dress it down whilst the lace one I can get away with wearing leggings and have it still look casual.

Headband files

So with Christmas/sales/my birthday I've accumulated a fair bit of new 'stuff' as such. Some of which includes lots of headbands. What can I say, I like headbands! Especially ones with bows. I now own four bow headbands, a pearl one, a plain white one,a light green and spotted one, a tartan one and one with some flowers. So that would be...nine headbands. Told you I liked them ;) The new ones have all been sale purchases, three from Asda and one from Peacocks (the leopard print one) and the most I spent on any of them was £2. Bargain!

Birthday celebrations

So after uni (yawnsome today when all I wanted to do was sleep and celebrate being 19!) I finally got my bbq chicken pizza, plus a brownies and ice cream desert, from Frankie and Benny's. Yay :) Followed by Sherlock Holmes at the cinema with Emily and Katie. Good times.

Then I got back to my flat and found Adam and Gary had returned. Awww everyone's returning which is lovely. Saved a voicemail from my dad of him singing happy birthday to me. Legend :)

Listening to Kelly Clarkson atm, waiting for Piers to get on Skype then I get a lie in tomorrow thanks to only having a lecture and my last shorthand lesson of the week. Then I'm free until 11am Friday morning. Oh the decadent bliss :)

It's my birthday :)

Happy 19th to me :) Fairly average day so far, with added presents and singing ;) Woke up 15 minutes earlier to open my birthday cards and the few presents I'd brought up from home, grabbed some yoghurt for breakfast (yum) and went in early to print off my two essays due in today. Got shorthand and essay hand-ins out the way so now I can fully enjoy my birthday :) I've got Frankie and Benny's with the uni girls later and then Emily and Katie are taking me to the cinema to see Sherlock Holmes. I can taste the bbq chicken pizza from Frankie and Benny's already!

Packing

Okay so I've been up just over an hour now and I'm about 1/3 through my packing...well packing of my suitcase anyway!I've got two loads of washing going (one in the actual washing machine, one in the tumble drier) and I'm slowly gathering up all my bits from throughout the house. My room does look tidier so my scheme worked (pack and my room will be tidier...thus Piers can stay two nights instead of one courtesy of mother's requirements). I've put my (evily placed) birthday presents in my suitcase, thus removing temptation.Still have a fair amount of space which is good given the whole two loads of washing that need to fit in there, plus a white wash (darned lack of colour catchers in this house!) I think most of my stuff is on my desk which makes it easier. Taking a few new books with me,some new clothes and leaving some behind.

It keeps snowing!Grr!On the plus side,if the co-op has no chicken in store when I go to complete the ingredients for tonights dinner, the sauce has ham and bacon in it.Sorted ;) Still,I should go to the co-op to check...and stock up on yummy stuff and Glamour magazine which I spied yesterday.I'm limiting myself to a magazine a day, which isn't hard,to streamline my spending :p

I really wanna know what the box is birthday present wise.I've guessed I already have one CD and two books but there's a giant box all wrapped up and it's pricking my curiosity every now and then.Oh I love birthday suspense :)

Last few home days

Home has been absolutely lovely :) I've loved the luxury of picking between a bath and a shower, that has fully been taken advantage of. It's been so good to see friends, family and Piers. Maddie has been particularly cute; it's so weird to think that she's gonna be two this year :| She seems to like holding my hand when we go out or me sitting next to her when we're at my dad's house. She'll sit on the bottom stair and pat the space next to her looking at me, then gets her huge cute grin on when I sit next to her. I think she's one of my weaknesses, cute grin plus the cow & gate baby advert laugh. Adorable!

It's odd to think I'm going back to uni on Sunday. I'm half looking forward to it and half not. I can't wait to see my uni friends and get back to my course (I've established that I'm a little bit in love with my course and am thus a uni geek...uneek ;]) but I'm bummed that I'm not going to be at home with my family for my birthday, two days after I go back up to Sunderland. Boo :( Plus Amy can't come with me now because her boss is being pants and refusing her holiday. Double boo :(

I already have my present from my brother and his girlfriend, who I've become friends with over Christmas which has been nice, which was £30 and a cute card. Yay :) However my mum has wrapped up my presents (one is a book, I felt it, and one looks like a CD. Not sure about the other two). She then placed them in my room, on my chest of drawers and has forbidden me to open them until my birthday. That's just cruel! I see Piers tomorrow and I've been promised his birthday present at some point over the weekend. Provided I pack nearly all my stuff and have tidied my room (which will happen by me packing) he's staying Saturday as well as Friday night which would be lovely. I genuinely detest saying goodbye to Piers. It's always the hardest one. Bring on September when we can be up north together and see each other properly throughout the year.

So Piers comes over tomorrow, I'm cooking dinner for us (something involving pasta, chicken, bacon and cheese sauce) and we'll have a general chill out then on Saturday we'll chill out during the day and head off to a friend's birthday party (hot drink and cakes party...so can't wait!) for a few hours before returning here. I'm silently hoping for a Chinese take away for dinner because I love Chinese take away and I haven't had one since being home, egg fried rice and chicken balls from the local one or the usual from our usual take out further afield. Either is fine by me! :) Nom, nom, nom!

Halfway through my last essay. Want to get 200-300 words on that tomorrow at some point so I have less to do on the train home, I'm never motivated on train journeys and I know this well. Plus I need to practise shorthand a bit more before the assessment on Wednesday. I am rather nervous about it but I need to hold my nerves in as this is actually what makes me go wrong. Provided I can remember the passage I should be okay as this is what we're marked on. Good stuff!

I'm not really sure what to do about my birthday. I'm thinking...get back and book a table at the local Frankie and Benny's and just go with some of the uni girls...so about 8 of us...I think... *runs them off in her head* yeah eight of us. Ooooo good calculation skills there, that's why I'm at uni ;)

I met up with my pastor's wife yesterday. Most awkward part of our conversation? When she tried to have the sex talk with me :| Most amusing part? Her reference to Piers' and mine relationship as a "special friendship". Still short of us getting married there isn't much we can do to say "hey look, we actually are serious here!" But yeah...sex talks with your pastor's wife is very cringey. Thankfully I grasped where she was going with the conversation, quickly reassured her and steered the conversation away from said topic within a sentence. Awkwardness averted :)

Hmm it's 1:10am and I need to be up early to get control of the washing machine (nobody has ever done so much washing in our house as my brother's girlfriend does,it's insane!). I also need to pack which requires me to hunt down everything as all my stuff has kind of disbanded from my suitcase to every room in the house I venture into and occupy random places I don't remember putting them. Fun times! :)
